Trending Tuesday: Wedding Talk








This week's Trending Tuesday is dedicated to those couples who leave a consultation with a vendor and think....WHAT were they talking about? As wedding professionals, we are around these types of conversations daily, so we talk in code more often than not. It is totally normal for the couple to get lost in the translation of abbreviations like :"MOB, FOG, FG, BM, etc. So couples, this one is for you! We put together a little list of commonly used abbreviations for you learn, and maybe even use, in your wedding planning journey!

BIL - Brother in Law

BM- Best Man or Bridesmaid

BP- Bridal Party

DOC- Day-of Coordinator

FG- Flower Girl

FOB-  Father of Bride

FOG- Father of Groom

GM- Groomsmen

MIL- Mother-in law

MOG- Mother of Groom

MOH- Maid of Honor or Matron of Honor

RB- Ring Bearer

SIL- Sister-in Law

STD- Save the Date

WP- Wedding Party

Black Tie - A formal affair. Think tuxedos and evening gowns.

Black Tie Optional- Tuxedos and evening gowns are suggested, but not required.

Boutonniere- A small arrangement, typically floral, pinned to the left lapel of a jacket.

Blusher- A short veil, typically shoulder length, to cover the bride's face.

Bustle- Attaching the train of the bride's dress by pinning it in place.

Cash Bar- Guests pay for their own drinks.

Charger- Larger, typically more decorative, plate that rests under the dinner plate.

Cocktail Attire- Less formal dress code that calls for suites and cocktail dresses.

Escort Card- Card that directs guests to their assigned tables.

Family Style- A dinner where guests pass around the food and help themselves as if they were at their own dinner table.

Garter- Band of fabric fastened around the bride's leg.

Open Bar- A bar where drinks are free for guests.

Place Cards- Designates a seat for guests at the table.

Processional- Bridal parties entrance into the ceremony.

Receiving  Lines- Couple greets each guest in turn as they enter the reception.

Recessional- When the wedding party exits following the end of the ceremony.

Save the Date- A "pre-invite" sent out early in the planning process to mark your guests calendars.

Stationary Suite- All the wedding stationary- save the dates, invitations, rsvp, receptions cards, etc.

Sweetheart Table- A two top table, specifically designed for the newlyweds

Unity Candle- A ceremonial representation of two families becoming one.
